ISF Lowry Fink Fellow 2024-2025 – Call for Applications from Low- and Middle-Income Countries

The International Sepsis Forum is pleased to announce the ISF Lowry Fink Fellowship – which recognizes the immense contributions made by Stephen F. Lowry and Mitchell Fink to advancing the science of sepsis – is open for 2024-2025 applications.

The Fellowship will offer rising stars, residing and working in low- and middle-income countries, in the field of sepsis the opportunity to promote education and research and to participate in clinical investigations through partnership with industry in a stimulating and supportive environment.

The principle behind the Fellowships is that they will be beneficial to both the Fellow and the ISF. Fellows would gain from interaction with the Council members and from working on activities with the ISF that will contribute to raising their international profile in sepsis. Applicants should be clinicians or scientists mid-career at the time of application, and with a record of accomplishment and proven interest in sepsis.


Fellowship Terms of Appointment

  1. Duration: 2 years fixed term, starting January 1, 2024

  2. Must be residing and working in a low-or middle-income country

  3. Nominating process:

    a. Self-nomination

    b. Council can propose names

    c. Seek names from other persons or groups

  4. Election: By majority vote of the council

  5. Number: 1-2 at any one time

  6. Status: Full voting member of Council during the Fellowship

  7. Roles and responsibilities:

    a. Co-chair a ISF Colloquium

    b. Be the lead author on a summary paper arising from the Colloquium, to be submitted as a draft to the council within six months of the meeting

    c. Participate in other ISF educational activities such as Sepsis 20XX and meet-the-expert sessions

    d. Fellows must contribute to a minimum of one extra activity per year, plus attend one Council meeting per year

  8. Financial Support: As per the ISF travel policy for Council members


Applicants should send a brief letter of application (no more than one page), three recommendation letters, and a curriculum vitae with a list of publications to Elaine Rinicker, Executive Director ISF, at elaine@sepsisforum.org.

Infection 360 – What's Trending in Infection Prevention & Control 2023 – Nov 8-9, 2023

Join the Infection 360 Conference from 8-9 November 2023 at the Pendulum Hotel and Manchester Conference Center as it returns for a second year, where renowned speakers with infection prevention backgrounds discuss technology and its part in combatting new and existing pathogens.

Infection 360 will cover a range of topics within infection prevention & control. Day one will cover Surgical Site Infection (SSI), Sustainability in IPC, CPE, MRSA, and other challenging pathogens. Healthcare buildings as a source of infection will be the focus of Day two.

2023 GSA Awards Now Open for Applications and Nominations – Apply Until October 31, 2023

Today, the Global Sepsis Alliance is thrilled to announce that the 2023 GSA Awards are now open for applications and nominations from all over the world.

The GSA Awards honor major contributions in the fight against sepsis every year and are exclusively and kindly sponsored by the Erin Kay Flatley Memorial Foundation.

The awards are granted in three categories:

  1. Governments and healthcare authorities

  2. Non-Governmental organizations, patient advocate groups, or healthcare provider groups

  3. Individual nominees

In addition to recognition, prestige, and – of course – a beautiful trophy, winners of categories 2 and 3 are awarded $2,500 each.

The deadline to apply or nominate is Tuesday, October 31, 2023 end of the day. Please share this opportunity with your colleagues, friends, and other interested parties.

Sepsis Alliance Summit – Sep 27 & 28, 2023 – Register Now to Participate Virtually

Our friends and colleagues from the Sepsis Alliance are hosting the ‘Sepsis Alliance Summit’ this Wednesday and Thursday – and it’s not too late to register to participate virtually.

The Sepsis Alliance Summit will feature two days of learning and inspiration for healthcare professionals across the continuum of care, including nurses, physicians, pharmacists, allied health professionals, data/quality/safety/IT professionals, students, leadership, policymakers, and industry leaders.

Designed to explore an array of sepsis-related topics in healthcare, the Sepsis Alliance Summit will include expert presentations from clinicians, innovation experts, and other influential leaders. Join the sessions that are relevant to your practice and interests, and increase your sepsis knowledge and skills. We encourage you to attend sessions live, as speakers will be present to answer questions and share knowledge for most sessions. If you are unable to attend live, sessions will be prerecorded and available at a later time.

Additionally, free nursing CE credits are offered, along with a certificate of attendance for other participants.


While Sepsis Alliance and Global Sepsis Alliance sound very similar, these are two distinct organizations, based in the US and Europe, respectively. The Sepsis Alliance is a founding member of the GSA.

Konrad Reinhart Receives Sepsisfonden Award at World Sepsis Day Event in Sweden

The Swedish Sepsisfonden awarded Prof. Reinhart with the Sepsisfonden Award at the 2023 World Sepsis Day Event at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. Ulrika Knutsson and Dr. Adam Linder, founders of Sepsisfonden, highlighted the critical leadership role of Prof. Reinhart in the global sepsis movement, research, and advocacy, and how he has inspired the work of Sepsisfonden in Sweden and in the broader Nordics region.

The event was opened by the address from Acko Ankarberg Johansson – Minister for Healthcare, Ministry of Health and Social Affairs of Sweden, and attended by Dr. Malin Grape – Ambassador on Antimicrobial Resistance, Division for EU and International Affairs of the Ministry.

Representatives of the Karolinska Institute, researchers, and civil society partners presented their work on the national sepsis policies, tools, as well as advocacy activities implemented in Sweden in partnership with the national health authority and Sepsisfonden.

The Global Sepsis Alliance expresses special gratitude to Dr. Kristoffer Stralin and Dr. Lisa Mellhammar for their critical role in generating national sepsis policies and evidence, respectively, and to Shahrzad Kiavash for her unique role in sepsis awareness raising awareness and being an inspiration for thousands of sepsis survivors and their families globally.
