Salman AbDulaziz, United Arab Emirates
Salman is the Chair of the Communications Committee of the GSA and a member of the QIC. His main clinical interest is sepsis in health care systems, public awareness, and strategic prevention planning of sepsis in the future.
Satish Bhagwanjee, United States
Sats is Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Washington. He served as President of the Critical Care Society of Southern Africa and received the Presidents’ Award. He served on the council and served as Secretary-General of the WFSICCM. He has been an advisor to the WHO for the management of global sepsis outbreaks and epidemics. He has developed and delivered a Sepsis program in LMICs that targets frontline providers.
Vida Hamilton, Ireland
Vida is the National Clinical Lead for Sepsis, sits on the National Sepsis Steering Committee and is co-author of the National Guidelines on Sepsis Management and is leading the implementation programme. She is an Honarary Senior Lecturer in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and Tutor in Anaesthesia for the College of Anaesthetists of Ireland.
Niranjan 'Tex' Kissoon, Canada
Tex is Vice Chairman of the GSA, past President of the World Federation of Pediatric Critical and Intensive Care Societies, and Vice President Medical Affairs at BC Children’s Hospital and Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children in Vancouver, Canada. In 2013, he was awarded the Distinguished Career Award by the AAP for his contribution to the society and discipline. He also holds the UBC BC Children’s Hospital Endowed Chair in Acute and Critical Care for Global Child Health.
Harvey Lander, Australia
Harvey Lander is Director, Systems Improvement at the Clinical Excellence Commission in Sydney, NSW Australia. He has responsibility for the Adult Patient Safety Program (including deteriorating patient, sepsis, VTE, falls, pressure injuries) and Medication Safety (medication reconciliation, high risk drugs, antimicrobial stewardship). He is also involved in supporting medical leadership at a state level and supports Executives and clinicians across 225 hospitals/smaller facilities.
Flavia Machado, Brazil
Besides serving on the GSA Executive Board, Flavia is also a member and leading contributer to the QIC. She is professor of intensive care and chair of the intensive care session of Anesthesiology, Pain and Intensive Care Department at the Federal University of São Paulo, Brazil. She has been working with the Latin America Sepsis Institute (LASI) since its foundation in 2005. Her involvement focuses on low- and middle income settings as she is highly skilled in education and knowledge translation in these conditions.
Imrana Malik, United States
Besides being the GSA Advance Coordinator, Imrana is also an important contributor to the work of the QIC. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Critical Care at MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) in Houston, Texas. She is primarily involved in direct patient care in the medical and surgical intensive care units. Her main clinical research interest involves sepsis in cancer patients.
Emmanuel Nsutebu, UK
Emmanuel is a Consultant Infectious Diseases Physician at the Tropical and Infectious Disease Unit of the Royal Liverpool Hospital, where he works as clinical lead for the “Sepsis - Time is Life” project. He is also the Advancing Quality clinical co-lead for Sepsis in the North West of England and Academic Health Science Network Clinical lead for the North of England. He is also a clinical advisor for the National Health Service England.
Elizabeth Papathanassoglou, Canada
Elizabeth is an Associate Professor, Faculty of Nursing, University of Alberta, Canada She is exploring the effects non-pharmacological, integrative interventions and the effects of stress responses in critical care. She is an Ambassador of the World Federation of Critical Care Nurses (WFCCN) 2015-2020 and co-Editor of CONNECT: The Official Journal of WFCCN. She has a record of over 100 publications in peer reviewed journals.
Konrad Reinhart, Germany
Konrad is Chair of the GSA and widely recognized as an international champion of sepsis. He is a member of the International Sepsis Forum and the German National Academy of Science Leopoldina and funding president of both the German Sepsis Society and the German Sepsis Foundation. His research activities in the field of sepsis and intensive care medicine led to more than 750 peer reviewed publications and the Research Award of the Federal State of Thuringia/Germany.
Kevin Rooney, Scotland
Kevin is a Consultant in Anaesthesia & Intensive Care Medicine and National Clinical Lead for Sepsis and the Acute Adult in the Scottish Patient Safety Programme. Scotland’s Sepsis programme has resulted in a 21% relative risk reduction in mortality and a 2-day reduction in length of stay. He is the Professor of Care Improvement at the University of the West of Scotland and critical care faculty for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.
Hendrik Rüddel, Germany
Hendrik heads the German Quality Network Sepsis (Deutsche Qualitaetsbuendnis Sepsis) and the icosmos-trial, both under senior management of Professor Konrad Reinhart. Aim is quality improvement in sepsis-related health care by using routine data for feedback. It includes 72 German hospitals from all levels of health care. Dr. Rueddel was part of the MEDUSA-trial team from 2010 to 2015. He is an intensive care and emergency medicine specialist at Jena University Hospital, Germany.
Giulio Toccafondi, Italy
Giulio is Chair of the Quality Improvement Committee (QIC) and Patient Safety and Quality Manager at the GRC Clinical Risk Management center of Tuscany Region. He co-chairs the healthcare ergonomics technical committee of the International Ergonomics Association. Giulio developed a multifaceted skill-set for improving patient safety in healthcare activities. He holds a PhD in Human Factors, a degree in Media Science, Interaction Design and Cognitive Ergonomics.
GiOrgio Tulli, Italy
Giorgio was born in Rome in 1946. He worked as Director of the Department of ICUs and Perioperative Medicine of all the Hospitals of the Florence Metropolitan Area. Today, he collaborates with the Tuscany Healthcare Agency, Tuscany Clinical Risk Group, and Tuscany HTA group. He is publishing a web journal named ‘Infezioni Obiettivo Zero’ (www.ars.toscana.it) and is involved with Clinical Risk Groups in projectson sepsis and HAI.
Marvin Zick, Germany
Marvin is General Manager of the GSA and has a background in Business Administration. Together with the GSA Executive Board, he is responsible for the strategic direction of the GSA, the communication and acquisition of sponsors for the WSD Movement, and the planning and execution of the World Sepsis Congresses. He is in charge of personnel and leading the technical advancement of the GSA. Marvin serves on all GSA Committees.
